Integrated Wastewater Treatment Philosophy

AQUASEP from Diva Envitec Pvt Ltd is a conventional wastewater treatment system designed to handle large volumes of moderately polluted water using a combination of physical, chemical, and biological processes. The system integrates equalisation, neutralisation, primary, secondary, and tertiary treatment stages to deliver consistent and compliant treated water for discharge or reuse. These can be both anaerobic or aerobic - decided by the wastewater composition, COD:BOD ratio and treatability studies. Anaerobic digestion also helps valorise the wastewater by biogas generation. It is a cost-effective and proven solution widely adopted across industrial and municipal applications, forming the backbone of wastewater treatment infrastructure globally.

Treatment Train & Process Staging

  1. Equalisation

    balances variations in flow and pollutant load by collecting wastewater from multiple sources, ensuring stable downstream operation and preventing process shocks.

  2. Neutralisation

    adjusts pH to near-neutral levels, creating optimal conditions for biological treatment and protecting sensitive downstream systems.

  3. Primary treatment

    removes larger suspended solids and particulate matter through sedimentation and screening, reducing load on biological stages.

  4. Secondary treatment

    biological degradation of organic pollutants using microorganisms, leading to significant reduction in BOD and COD.

  5. Tertiary treatment

    polishing stage using filtration, membranes (NF/RO), adsorption, or disinfection to achieve discharge or reuse standards. For high TDS streams, integration with evaporation systems (MEE/ZLD) is possible.

Engineering Considerations

Globally, approximately 360 billion m³/year (~360 trillion litres/year) of municipal and domestic wastewater is generated, of which only about 52% is collected and treated, and ~11% is reused. Conventional systems like AQUASEP continue to play a critical role, while also serving as a foundation for integration with advanced and ZLD-based treatment technologies.
